JOHO Board of Directors:
The JOHO Board of Directors consists of twelve (12) directors elected by the members of JOHO and one (1) director appointed by the Assistant Attorney General, Justice Management Division, Department of Justice. Directors serve a term of (2) years or until their successors are elected. The Board elects from among their members a Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer; these directors constitute the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. The Board has the power and authority to carry out the objectives of JOHO, including contracting for liability insurance and for other services or supplies necessary for operations, setting terms, and conditions of membership and establishing and enforcing rules and regulations.
The JOHO Board of Directors has engaged a management company to manage the daily operation of the JOHO Fitness Centers, provide DOJ employees and authorized contractors with professional assistance with personal exercise programs and coordinate fitness/health promotion activities. The management team meets monthly with the Board of Directors, who provide direct oversight of all JOHO activities.
Executive Committee:
Chairman: Tom Morris
I am the current JOHO Board chairman and have served on the Board for five years and been a JOHO member for a decade. I regularly attend spin classes. My focus is on equipping the new 3Con facility, upgrading equipment at all of the facilities, offering popular specialty classes, and keeping the gym on a firm financial footing.
Treasurer- Michelle Bartoli
I am an employee of the National Security Division, have been a JOHO member since 2008 (at RFK, PHB, and now 3CON), and a JOHO Board member since 2010. I have also served as the Board’s Treasurer since 2010.
Through my experiences as a JOHO member and my time on the JOHO Board, I have had the opportunity to interact with many of the wonderful JOHO members as well as the praiseworthy CFW staff and welcome the opportunity to continue to do so.
A bit about me personally, I love dogs, traveling, and hockey - LET’S GO CAPS!! – and, of course, exercising at JOHO!
Board Members:
Janet Bradley
I have been with the Tax Division, Appellate Section, for 34 years. I have been a JOHO member for about just as long. For the last several years, I have been on the JOHO Board of Directors, which is responsible for over-seeing the operation of the fitness facilities. I have actively participated in the design and operation of 3CON, as well as the impending closure of PHB. I have been a major proponent of controlling the cost of the management contract – JOHO’s largest expense – in order to keep your dues as low as possible while still having funds to purchase new equipment. I continue to lobby the Department to revitalize our aging fitness facilities in JCB and RFK. In addition, I continually monitor group classes to make sure that they satisfy your requests. Be assured that my top priorities are to purchase new equipment, upgrade our facilities, and have the group classes that you want. I always welcome your input!
Chris Jeffries
Chris Jeffries is an Information Technology Program Manager with the Executive Office for US Attorneys. Chris has worked for the Executive Office for United States Attorneys since 1995, first as a contractor and then joining the Government in 2004. Prior to working for the Government, Chris worked for the Oracle Corporation and then Dyncorp before starting his own company Complex Systems Inc. He has two daughters and enjoys spending time with his family. In his spare time, he likes to bike, workout, golf and is happy to be outdoors. He would like to see JOHO continue to grow and provide more opportunities for people to get or stay in shape. In particular he would also like to see the 3CON facility mature like the other JOHO sites have.
Ross Brater
Ross Brater, an economist in the Antitrust Division’s Economic Analysis Group. I joined the Department in July of 2014, shortly after finishing my Ph.D. in economics at The Ohio State University. As a former wrestler and an avid proponent of the value of strength training, I soon reluctantly admitted to myself that the last few years of my program had taken their physical toll. I realized I had, indeed, really let myself go. Fortunately, I found JOHO not too long after starting at the Department. The facilities, staff, and the people I’ve met have all been invaluable in helping me find myself ever since. My main priority is to ensure that JOHO remains able to help others in the same way it has helped me. I fully appreciate the importance of making sure the transition goes smoothly when it comes to JOHO’s upcoming migration from its PHB location. I also want to ensure that JOHO’s weight-training community is well-represented when decision-making time rolls around.
