End of the Year Reflection

As we finish off the year, there is a lot to reflect on. The question is how can we be effective with our end of the year reflection? Some people enjoy making New Years Resolution each year, but have you also thought about just making an end of the year reflection instead? Follow the guide below on how to create an end of the year reflection.

How do you Review your End of the Year?

First, pick out a set of questions that are meaningful to you. There is no limit on how many questions you can ask yourself, but take time to evaluate each question and give your best answer. Below are a few examples of questions you can ask yourself.

  1. What did I accomplish?
  2. What were my biggest disappointments?
  3. What did I learn?
  4. What are my personal values?
  5. What is my purpose next year?

Finding Balance

In our lives we play many roles-spouse, friend, employee, boss, father/mother, and many more. This category is a way for you to figure out what matters in your life. Getting the right balance between your different roles is a universal need. You may succeed or you may not, but it’s worth striving for achieving that balance. Here is an example of a list of what matters in someone’s life.

Things that matter to me:

  • Be a great friend.
  • Have a great relationship with myself — emotional, spiritual and physical.
  • Be a great colleague- thrive at work.
  • Be a respectful and responsible citizen in the world
  • Value relationships

Letting Go

Not every year is a good year. However, recognizing what isn’t working for you is very positive. None of the things that grate us have a positive impact on our lives and holding onto them definitely doesn’t have a positive effect on those around us. Follow these steps.

  1. Write all the things you want to let go of on a piece of paper.
  2. Accept that it bothers you and you are having trouble changing it.
  3. Practice compassion.
  4. Destroy that list. Release yourself from the burden of resentment.
  5. Be aware of the present moment and enjoy it.

Create a Plan

After you have reflected on your year, create a plan for the new year. This plan can include any goals, interests, stopping bad habits, travel, spending more time with loved ones, and much more. Write down all your ideas in a notebook or on a file on computer. Start off small, and then build on as the year progresses. Also, you can rank your ideas from the most important to the least important. Overall, just be creative and realistic.

Happy New Year!
